Welcome to Disciples Church!

Church is risky: a bunch of people we don’t know singing words most of us never use. It’s centered on a person we’ve never seen and rarely fully understand.

Enter Disciples Church.

Church During COVID-19

We all agree that people gathering together in Christian community is a supernatural discipline worthy of commitment as followers of Christ. Something shifts in our souls and in the communal atmosphere when God’s diverse people gathering to lift his name high, humbly receive teaching from his Word, and experience the community of prayer, testimony, and togetherness. Scripture implores this over and over again:  being together is to our Christian life.

While we value deeply our gathering together  we also are sensitive that not all of Disciples Church is ready to gather in a room singing songs, laying on of hands, and generally being in close proximity to others. For this reason, we will be offering an in-person worship experience as well as an online streaming service every Sunday morning at 10AM. Due to social distancing requirements, we ask that you please RSVP if you plan to attend our in-person gathering.

In Person Gathering Details:

Our gathering includes singing, preaching, prayer, and testimony. This will be a family gathering. All in attendance will be wearing masks and seated in family groups. Scroll down to review additional Health & Safety Protocols for our in-person gatherings.

Health & Safety Protocols

Before you leave your house:

  • Confirm that no one in your household is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms: fever, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, chills, muscle pain, or new loss of taste or smell.
  • Use the restroom. The restrooms in the building will be open, but please only use them if absolutely necessary (changing tables for infants are available in both restrooms).
  • Bring your own mask or facial covering and outdo one another with honor by wearing it while you’re in the building.
  • We will not be providing coffee at this time. Please have your morning coffee/beverage before you arrive or come early and stop by Kingdom Coffee before service.

While you are at Disciples Church:

  • Social Distancing Wristbands. When you arrive, please pick up a wristband at the welcome table to let people know what level of social distancing you are comfortable with. Yellow means fist bumps are ok. Red means please keep 6′ of social distance.
  • Sit in households. This helps maintain social distancing and, according to the CDC, is a key measure to protecting yourself and others
  • Wear your mask or facial covering. The CDC recommends wearing masks to help protect others and slow the spread. Disposable masks will be available if you forget yours at home.
  • Practice safe hygiene. Wash your hands often for 20 seconds with soap and water. We will also have hand sanitizer stations available.
  • Go home if you have any symptoms. Or stay home. Even if it’s just an allergy cough, let’s outdo one another in showing honor.

After you leave:

  • Wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds as soon as you get home.
  • Contact the church immediately if you experience any flulike symptoms and seek medical advice.

A note for “high risk” individuals:

California and the CDC recommend those who are in the highest risk groups, 65 or older or with underlying health issues, stay at home. This is the lowest risk option. We will continue offer our live stream via Facebook and YouTube live to serve our “high risk” family members.

Additional precautions we are taking:

  • Chairs will be set up to allow adequate social distancing between households.
  • All commonly touched surfaces will be disinfected prior to the morning service.
  • We will not be handing out any programs or providing coffee. Snacks and activity packets for kids will be individually packaged.

What to Expect

The community at Disciples is authentic, fun, and just a little irreverent.

We’re in the same parking lot as Century 14 in Folsom, across the street from the Folsom Premium Outlets. Once you park, our main door is directly under the giant Disciples Church sign on the building; you can’t miss it! You can expect to be greeted at the door and offered our weekly program.

You’ll find most of us chatting in the lobby, and that the dress is pretty informal; jeans and shirts for most. Our kid check kiosk is on the left after entering. Free coffee(!) can be found opposite the kid check kiosk.

During the service, you can expect loud, upbeat music, followed by 20-minute message that is fun, practical, and centered on Jesus. The 90-minute service usually ends with a couple more songs, after which you can pick up your kiddos or hang with us in the lobby. Or you can race out the door…you wouldn’t hurt our feelings.

Current Series

After 2020 we are all hoping for something new and different in 2021. And yet, like most years, much of life will remain similar to life just a week ago. For those whose ‘god’ must arrive as they imagined him, they are left with only cynicism, bitterness, and a numbness.

Thankfully God provides a different way! He says he is doing a new thing, and over and over again in Scripture his people experience him in new and breathtaking ways. For those willing to receive God as he is, overflowing joy is unavoidable.

Join us on Sunday mornings at 10AM in January as we explore the new things that God is doing in our community.

Worship

Most Sundays we are led by our gifted worship leader, Ellie Spinosi, or our Worship Pastor, Calvin Lamb. Their music is generally a bit on the loud-side, passionate, and sincere. You can check out our Spotify playlist to hear some of the songs you might expect to hear, but in general we sing about God – not ourselves. We sing a lot about His love, His grace, his Glory. We are a a wide mix of people from a wide mix of traditions, so you’ll see some with their hands raised and some stiff as a board. We are low on production, but high on excellence. You will not find smoke machines or fancy lighting schemes – no judgment, it’s just not our thing. We are always introducing new music and have a prayer team on hand during worship for those who want to pray with someone or be prayed for by someone.
